Struggling to look for a Frankfurt cafe to work at with your laptop? You know, basically one with WiFi and electric sockets. Or at least one of them.
Well, fret not dear stranger. As a remote worker who’s always traveling around Germany, I’m always on the hunt for coffee shops to work at (you can say they’re my second home). So I understand the struggle.
While Frankfurt is smaller compared to other major cities, there were still some nice coffee shops for work there. Below, I’ve listed down 7 options if you’re looking for a laptop-friendly cafe Frankfurt has to offer.
I’ve personally been to each of them just recently, so I can attest that each cafe here is conducive to working or studying. I’ll also let you of any pros and cons.
(By the way, I’ve also done the same work cafe lists for Berlin and Hamburg!)
Disclaimer: I obviously haven’t been to every single coffee shop there, so I definitely may have missed some spots!
All right, let’s go—the best cafes Frankfurt has for working and studying with a laptop.
Café No. 48
Sonnemannstraße 53, 60314 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Nordend-Ost
Sockets: Yes
So out of every place I’ve been to, this is probably the best work cafe Frankfurt has.
Plenty of sockets? Check (almost every table has).
Quick Wi-Fi? Check.
Great coffee? Check.
As for food, they only serve cake and pastries, which taste great, if on the sweeter side. They even have some vegan cakes as well. The interior feels light and welcoming too and there are some outdoor seats.
But the best part about Cafe No. 48 though is that, at least during the times I was there, it never seemed overly busy. This fact, combined with abundance of sockets, means that you’ll almost always get one for yourself!
Copper Bay Superfood and Coffee
Sonnemannstraße 53, 60314 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Ostend
Sockets: Yes
Another personal go-to Frankfurt work cafe is Copper Bay. It also ticks all my boxes. Sockets, fast and stable Wi-Fi, and they indeed have super great food and coffee. They have good menu variety and even plenty of vegan options. Staff were friendly to boot too.
The inside area is also rather spacious, so it doesn’t feel too cramped or busy even if there are a lot of people. You can even get a nice view of the ECB (European Central Bank) while you’re there.
The only downside is that the prices are a tad higher than others, while their serving portions are a bit small (so MyFitnessPal won’t complain but your wallet will).
But I’m personally all right with that given everything else.
Café Under Pressure
Große Rittergasse 20, 60594 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Sachsenhausen
Sockets: A few
Cafe Under Pressure’s name doesn’t really fit with how small and relaxed the place is. The place has good coffee and food. The owner is there himself too and he’s pretty friendly with people! Overall, it has a very simple, homey, and authentic vibe—it’s lovely.
There are sockets (by the seats against the wall), but only a few. If I remember correctly, there are only two of them. Wi-Fi is decent as well.
Take note, however, that the cafe doesn’t allow laptops on weekends, so come here during the work week. And as I said, this place is pretty small. So if it gets crowded, you might get easily distracted by all the chatter if you don’t have earphones.
Die grüne Kaffeebohne
Hanauer Landstraße 115, 60314 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Ostend
Sockets: Yes
Die grüne Kaffeebohne is right beside the East train station. I love the interior design, where it’s modern yet cozy. The staff are friendly as well and the service was pretty quick.
There are also sockets by the benches for charging your laptop. However, there’s no Wi-Fi (well, they technically have, but it’s unusably slow—I don’t know, you might have better luck when you’re there).
As for the food and coffee: I can only speak on the bagel, which was mediocre, but the coffee was decent. They’re definitely quite overpriced though!
Kaffeemacherei
Bornwiesenweg 4, 60322 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Nordend-West
Sockets: Some
Kaffeemacherei’s motto on their website is “We speak good coffee”—and you know what, they’re right.
Despite how often I work at cafes, I’m not exactly a coffee enthusiast per se. But I can still appreciate a good cup, and they surely have good cups of coffee—maybe even the best in the city. So in terms of drinks, it’s one of the best coffee shops Frankfurt has in my opinion.
The food is also great. I personally recommend their omelets!
As for working: there are a few sockets around, but not all of them work. Wi-Fi is available though and it’s quick and reliable.
Laptops are also not allowed on weekends. So if you want to come here to work, go here on weekdays. But you’ll definitely have to fight over other people coming there to work for the few sockets they have.
They have outdoor seating with some cozy furniture as well.
1895 Café Bar Bistro
Luisenstraße 7, 60316 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Nordend-Ost
Sockets: Yes
I was invited to this place for drinks and some live music by a friend one Tuesday night—and I couldn’t help but notice all the sockets around! So lo and behold, I was back here the next morning with my laptop!
Aside from plenty of sockets, the Wi-Fi is pretty good too. Coffee is all right, but the food is much better. It definitely feels more like a restaurant than a cafe, with families and couples going often here for brunch or lunch. But in my experience, you probably won’t be alone with the laptop.
It’s definitely a popular spot, so expect it to be rather crowded.
And like I said, it becomes a bar at night, even if the live music is only on Tuesdays. So you’ll have to make the most out of the morning or afternoon you’re there (or both, if you’re particularly shameless, ha!)
Unless you want to look out of place with a laptop at night when everyone else is drinking, I guess.
They even have buffets on Sundays if you’re interested.
Hoppenworth & Ploch Nordend
Friedberger Landstraße 86, 60316 Frankfurt am Main
Area: Nordend-Ost
Sockets: Yes
Hoppenworth & Ploch Nordend has several branches in Frankfurt, but I’ve only been to their Nordend location. (I try to go to different coffee shops as much as possible, both for the diversity and to write this article).
Wi-Fi is solid and there are many sockets near the tables. This interior is basic but quite spacious, and the place is very popular for students in my experience. So expect the place to be pretty filled (and pretty noisy). Nothing like a good pair of noise-cancelling earphones won’t solve though.
The pastries and coffee they serve are delicious, but they don’t serve any real meals.
